Road Trip Photos (in a Honda Element)

I’ve been meaning to explain how we’ve managed to road-trip (travel and live) full-time in my partner’s Honda Element. However, I think I should share a few of the quiet moments first.

I should note that I never intended to share these images, as most of these photographs were taken from inside the Honda, where I find it so hard to take pretty photos.

Plus, we had a cracked windshield (and what sounded like a bullet hole) on display for most of the initial year and a half of traveling and living in the Element.

We didn’t want to replace the windshield until we were no longer driving the roughest roads, so the risk of further cracks and holes would be diminished.

I’m not sure if that’s logical. But the windshield looks absolutely lovely now.

I should also note that traveling and living in the Honda Element for a year and a half was completely unplanned. I was sure we were going on a brief camping trip.

That meant we only packed our worn “camping” clothes when we headed out on the road. We didn’t plan for anything else. And it turns out that’s okay.

Here are some of the quiet moments displayed in the photos below…

  • my partner’s joy at arriving back in California, where he spent years racing sailboats

  • a favorite coffee shop (my partner goes inside while I slowly wake)

  • a little Thai elephant gifted to us by a favorite Thai restaurant owner

  • the first time we saw the brand-new VW bus

  • a favorite beautiful canyon

  • how I cool off in the heat

  • how I try to remind myself to communicate in ways that help

  • red tail lights that I cannot explain

  • how I relax (feet up)

  • the beautiful drive up to Mammoth Lakes, CA

  • van camper envy in the Mammoth ski mountain parking lot

  • happiness

  • peace

  • beauty

  • rain is a real issue when living in a Honda Element

  • more natural beauty

  • realizing the Secret Service was tailing us (seriously, literally, factually)

  • a beautiful campsite (with a nearby grill fire that exploded as those campers slept)

  • frugal celebration

  • early morning

  • how my partner relaxes (lovingly touching me/my feet)
