Point Cabrillo Light Station (California State Historic Park)

While we were in Mendocino, California, we trekked down the road to Cabrillo Point to see the Point Cabrillo Light Station. This cloudy day was somehow still warm and dry enough to spend it outdoors. A few sprinkles arrived, but barely. In fact, the moody skies appeared much brighter in person due to the spectacular scenery. It was such a simple pleasure, this long nature walk out to and back from the lighthouse. We saw the lightkeepers’ homes and cottages. We learned about marine life. We waited for the brilliant light to beam from the lighthouse Fresnel lens. And we paused to think about how this land actually belongs back with the Indigenous.
