Honoring Traditional Indigenous Territories
I want to take this moment to pause and acknowledge that nearly everywhere we go, we travel through and live in traditional Indigenous territories.
These are ancestral lands that Indigenous peoples have never ceded—all while they’ve attempted to protect Mother Earth.
Stewards of these lands since time immemorial, I honor their traditional Indigenous sovereignty, right to jurisdiction, sacred ways, languages, and cultures.
They and their ways should be seen and heard first.
They have experienced ongoing trauma from systemic racism; assaults of disinformation and misinformation; attempts to separate them from their land, their culture, and from one another.
In addition, they have experienced a disproportionate rate of assaulted, missing, and murdered Indigenous females.
They have experienced so much injustice, so much violence.
This is why I support truth and reconciliation calls to action. This is why I want to surround myself with others who support truth and reconciliation, too.
