My Favorite (Gluten-Free + Vegan) Burger in Victoria, BC
I’ve been in Victoria, BC, inhaling my favorite gluten-free + vegan burger here in Canada.
Technically marketed as a veggie burger, the kind chef offers to make one change to my Cashew Chickpea burger to ensure it’s vegan, then adds a toasted gluten-free bun.
A lettuce wrap, vegan cheese, and other options have also been thoughtfully available.
I’ve been in love with this Cashew Chickpea burger for about ten years. I used to order it directly from their food truck, which used to be parked behind the Royal BC Museum.
Now their food truck roves to different locations, and this summer we’ve been traveling on the opposite (East) side of Victoria, BC, by sailboat. So I assumed I’d miss out on this burger.
Thus, we were shocked to discover my favorite burger here in Canada is now actually sold on this, the East side of Victoria. The serendipity. How did we get so lucky?
So, this trip, I’ve been ordering this burger from its brick-and-mortar location.
We had so much fun walking there, going in, sitting down, and sharing our gratitude with the chef. I also had fun ordering takeout delivered when I was too busy to leave the boat.
(My partner ordered another gluten-free vegan burger and homemade veggie chips. He loved them so much that he was closing his eyes while savoring his meal.)
Why do I love the Cashew Chickpea burger so much? It’s the flavor of the burger patty itself combined with its toppings. The chef says toasting the bun is key.
It’s a “house-made nut patty with fresh-cut tomato salsa, chipotle mayo [subbed with vegan mayo], and lettuce.”
Dare I say … the more vegan mayo there is, the more glorious a burger tastes to me (it’s a rare treat). I also love adding pickles.
I find this burger so tasty that I once asked my partner if he was okay traveling all the way from the lower forty-eight to Victoria, BC, solely to consume one (he immediately said yes).
